New Zealand 2007

On a ECO-Warrior mission to New Zealand, James Pribram surfed the famed Whangamata surfing spot, an epic left hand wave that breaks over a sandbar, and that, sadly, is being threatened by marina construction. Pribram, along with local activists, traveled to New Zealand’s Parliament and met with Maori Party leader Tariana Turia to discuss the marin proposal and potential effects on the environment and community.

When we left Parliament, we felt at least a little more hope that the tide could turn in Whangamata. Yet the fight goes on, not only to save Whangamata’s beach and sand bar but so many waves around the world…
